About Golden Sun

Camelot's role-playing game puts you in charge of Isaac and a growing party of Adepts — Garet, Ivan and Mia among them — people who channel elemental energy called Psynergy. A ceremony at Sol Sanctum goes badly wrong, Saturos and Menardi make off with the Elemental Stars, and you follow them across the continent of Weyard. Battles are turn-based and shown in a pseudo-3D view from behind your party, with four elements — Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Mercury — deciding what hits hard against what.

Psynergy does double duty. The same abilities that damage enemies also shove pillars, freeze puddles into ice columns and grow vines, so dungeon puzzles draw on your combat list. Layered on top are Djinn: twenty-eight elemental creatures you collect and assign to party members. Which Djinn a character has Set determines their class, stats and spell list, and unleashing one in battle puts it on standby to fuel a summon.

Why play Golden Sun

The Djinn system is why this one still gets recommended. Reassigning Djinn rebuilds your party's classes mid-dungeon, and each battle forces a real choice between a Djinn's own attack, the stat boost of leaving it Set, and holding it on standby to power a summon. Camelot also leaned on the hardware for scaling, rotation and long summon sequences.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Djinn are in Golden Sun?

Twenty-eight in total, seven each of Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Mercury. All of them can be found within this first game, and several are only reachable once you have acquired a later field Psynergy, which means backtracking to earlier areas.

How do you transfer your save to Golden Sun: The Lost Age?

Finishing the game gives you a password. There are three grades: bronze carries names, levels and Djinn; silver adds exact stats; gold adds your coins and every item in the party's inventory. Entering it in The Lost Age restores that progress when Isaac's group rejoins the story, so use the longest one on offer.

How long is Golden Sun?

The main story runs around 22 hours, and closer to 26 or 27 if you chase side content. Tracking down every Djinn and hidden item pushes it higher still, since a number of them are gated behind Psynergy you only learn late and require returning to old towns and dungeons.

Is Golden Sun really free to play?

Yes. Every game on OldGames.Games is free to play in your browser. There are no downloads or hidden fees; a free account is required to play.

Can I save my progress?

Yes. The emulator supports save states — you can save the exact moment you're at and resume later from any device by signing into a free OldGames account.

Does Golden Sun work on mobile?

Yes. The emulator includes touch controls optimised for phones and tablets. iPhone, iPad, Android — all supported.

Can I use a gamepad?

Yes. Connect any USB or Bluetooth controller (Xbox, PlayStation, 8BitDo, Switch Pro, etc.) and it will be detected automatically.
